Cooliris

grapefruitopia is now Cooliris enabled for the 365 photo feed - give it a try!

Wordle

Wordle is a website that'll create a "Word Cloud" from the text (or URL) you give it. Here's what you get when you feed in the contents of all the blog posts, and most of my rant articles:

365 update

Ok, so as promised, I've relaunched 365 - it's now a gallery page again (with a funky calendar layout), rather than daily blog posts, as I was finding it hard to write a whole post for each image when most only warrant a brief title. I'll go through the last 6 months of photos and add captions in due time!

It's using all sorts of clever hi-tech AJAXy goodness which might break unexpectedly, so bear with me if it does!

Now we are six

Six years ago today, the original version of grapefruitopia hit the interweb. Back then it was hosted on a little (free) web host, and didn't really contain much content - I didn't have a proper blogging system in place until nearly a year later, when I finally got tired of having to manually edit the html on the front page every time I wanted to say anything!

Since then I got a proper domain, and have moved web hosts twice (once to the rather useless Domainbuster)

Here's some highlights from the past six years:

Anyway, thanks to everyone who's been along for the ride!

When I was one I'd just begun,
When I was two I was nearly new,
When I was three I was hardly me,
When I was four I was not much more,
When I was five I was barely alive,
But now I am six! As clever as clever!
And I think I'll stay six now for ever and ever!

30 Days of Posts

At the end of March my wonderful wife set me a challenge - "You've got your website, but you only update it a couple of times a week, what's the point of that? - Why not try posting something every day for a whole month?"

I didn't think I'd manage, but somehow I did. Regular readers might've been somewhat surprised by the sudden flow of posts, and I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep it up in the future. I actually managed a run of 36 days, with last Sunday being the first time I didn't post. Anyway, I hope my attempts at updating this site more often will make it more interesting for readers - I may talk a lot of rubbish most of the time, but I'm sure even if everyone zones out most stuff, they'll occasionally find something of interest!

As a reward I got some nice chocolates, a pack of jelly beans, and a nice bottle of local beer which I'll enjoy at a later date!

More Arrgh!

It seems my rss feed generation script went mad on Saturday, and is happily eating all the CPU time (thanks to Tash for spotting it there munching away!) - hopefully should be sorted out soon...

Update: Seems to all be fixed - a broken tag in the blog was all to blame *sigh*

Arrgh!

Have I mentioned before that I really HATE IE?

Anyway, I just noticed that my layout's been hideously broken in IE for a while now, thanks to its inability to handle CSS properly. My suggestion to everyone would be to just do yourselves a huge favour, and download Firefox instead!

International Lurk Amnesty

According to my server stats, I get a surprising number of visitors to my humble corner of the interweb. Many seem to be looking for Smartphone stuff, particularly the Speaking Clock. Others seem to be looking for photos of Natalie Casey, or how to care for their chilli plant (mine died!) Quite a few people seem to just want to look at my birthday cake from last year ( - who can blame them, it was yummy!), whilst others seem to just be having problems with their Freeview recievers.

Anyway, my point is, I apparently get a good few thousand visitors every month, yet I only ever get comments from a faithful few - mostly people who've been here since the beginning, so if you're a regular reader who's never felt inclined to comment, click the link (all the posts have one, you can either click the little speech bubble icon at the bottom, or just on the post title at the top) and say hi - who are you, where are you from, why in gods name do you keep coming back? (or have you just randomly stumbled here from Google?)

That reminds me, I haven't had any Letters from Mad People for a while...
